Job Overview
The Manager, Waste and Scrap Management will be responsible for managing all aspects of
scrap materials generated from raw material (RM) process waste across organization and
ensuring inventory control, vendor management, and revenue maximization. This role focuses
on waste management systems, safety training, compliance with environmental regulations,
strategic planning and execution of waste management processes, focusing on the sale of scrap
materials, vendor negotiations, and maximizing profit generation from waste.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Scrap and Waste Inventory Management
- Manage inventory of all scrap materials generated from the plant, ensuring accurate tracking, classification, and storage.
- Implement efficient inventory control systems to monitor waste generation and disposal.
- Perform regular audits of waste inventory and identify areas for improvement in resource utilization
2. Vendor Discovery and Management
- Identify and onboard new vendors to enhance competition and maximize scrap sale revenue.
- Negotiate contracts with vendors, ensuring favourable terms and timely scrap lifting.
- Develop long-term vendor relationships that support strategic business goals, compliance, and cost reduction
3. Revenue Optimization
- Explore innovative ways to maximize revenue from waste by identifying new markets, improving scrap segregation, and ensuring efficient sales processes.
- Collaborate with the finance team to develop and track revenue forecasts from scrap sales.
- Evaluate market trends for scrap pricing and recommend strategies to capitalize on price fluctuations.
4. Contracting and Compliance
- Oversee the legal and contractual aspects of vendor agreements, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations and company policies.
- Ensure all scrap management activities are compliant with environmental laws and internal standards.
- Collaborate with the legal and finance departments for proper contracting, reporting, and compliance.
5. Waste Reduction & Management
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly waste generation, aiming to minimize wastage.
- Analyse waste generation patterns and propose improvements to reduce overall waste.
- Implement mass balancing techniques to track waste flow and optimize waste reduction strategies.
- Regularly review operational processes to minimize wastage and improve profitability from scrap.
6. Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly reports, providing vendor and scrap-wise breakdowns and comparisons.
- Perform mass balancing and work toward continuous waste reduction.
7. Team Development & Training
- Lead a team responsible for scrap handling, inventory management, and vendor coordination
- Guide the team toward process improvements, using methods like 5S, Why-Why Analysis, Fishbone diagrams, TPM, TQM, and Lean Manufacturing.
- Conduct training sessions to ensure safety and efficiency in scrap handling.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including supply chain, finance, and operations to achieve organizational objectives
8. Market Knowledge & Decision Making
- Stay updated on market trends and pricing for scrap materials to make informed business decisions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Polymer Science, Accounting & Finance or a related field.
- 8-10 years of experience in waste management or scrap handling, with at least 2-3 years managing teams and vendors.
- Experience in inventory management, data analysis, ERP/SAP systems.
- Strong analytical skills, with knowledge of MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets).
